FAQ

Welcome to First Impressions Photographic

WHAT SHALL I BRING WITH ME?
This is your photo shoot, so what you wear is really up to you. I would highly suggest that you find quality items, because if it's cheap, then there is a good chance it will look cheap. Quality doesn't always mean you have to spend more. Some items I would suggest:
  • Matching Bra & Panty Set
  • Stockings
  • Corset
  • Garters
  • Girdles & Waist Cinchers
  • Slips & Camisoles
  • Your favourite jeans
  • Nice Blouse & Skirts
  • Cocktail Dress or Sundress
  • Robes & Gowns
  • Swimsuit
  • Nice Heels
  • Books, Toys, Hats, etc.

  • DO YOU DO OUTDOOR SHOOTS?
Yes. Your session doesn't have to be limited to a traditional type of boudoir photography shoot. I have done many outdoor shoots and can incorporate them into your package if you like. There is, however, usually more planning involved because of the location and possible driving time, lighting and time of day, weather,
    etc.

DO YOU WORK WITH BBW OR PLUS SIZE MODELS?
Absolutely. I can photograph all shapes and sizes. The only thing I ask is that you are confident and comfortable with your own body, whatever body type it might be. A few things to keep in mind before contacting me about a shoot and during a shoot:
  • If you look in the mirror and aren't somewhat comfortable with your body, then contacting me at this point is a bad idea
  • If you are a size 18, don't expect me to make you a size 10
  • I am not comfortable being deceitful with my editing
  • While I do use softening and other editing techniques where needed, I will NOT "airbrush"
  • The more comfortable you are with your body, the better your shoot will turn out

  • TIPS & ADVICE FOR A SUCCESSFUL PHOTOSHOOT
     DRINK PLENTY OF WATER
Start drinking plenty of water several days before a shoot. This will keep your skin properly hydrated and help reduce bloating and water retention. A week before your shoot you should try to stay away from foods with high carbs and sugary, salty, greasy, and spicy foods, as these can cause problems with bloating, water retention, and skin irritation.

     GET PLENTY OF REST
Getting plenty of sleep and rest before a photo shoot is essential for success. Proper rest isn't just important for getting rid of dark circles under your eyes and eliminating that overall tired look you might have, but it is also crucial for the mental aspect that is required when you are posing in front of a camera for several hours. You'll need to be clear-headed, alert, responsive and upbeat for a successful session. You can't do that if you are tired before you even get to the shoot.

     GET YOUR NAILS DONE
Make sure you have your fingernails and toenails manicured before you arrive. It can really make a big difference between getting great images and just good images. A neutral color(a nude polish or American or French manicure) is generally what works best, because it will go with anything you wear, but what colour you choose for your nails is entirely up to you.

     PLAN AHEAD FOR PHOTO RETOUCHING
Pretty much all photographs go through some kind of retouching before being presented as a photographer's final product. This is especially true with boudoir photography. My photography is no different. Excluding creative and artistic expression with some photos, I generally tend to stay away from heavy retouching during the editing process. I don't want to deceive anyone with my photography, and I try to accent and enhance my model's assets rather than hide and remove things. I feel that if I have to over-edit your photos, then I have failed as a photographer.
That being said, some ladies choose to not show their face or want to cover up distinguishable tattoos. Things like face blurring, tattoo and blemish removal, and even trimming and slenderising can be done while I am retouching a photo. There are, however, things to consider and steps that can be taken prior to the camera capturing your image that can help make the editing process much simpler and even create a better final product.

     FACE BLURRING
For the ladies who prefer to not show their face, but don't want a blurred photo, the simple act of tilting your head or letting your hair cover your face can help to achieve a great image without having to blur your face during the editing process. Of course I will work with you to make sure your face doesn't show, but it can go a long way to create better images if you take the time to consider how you can best hide your face. Masks(as well as hats, books, fans, etc.) are a great way to hide your facial features while also helping to create very artistic and unique shots.

     TATTOOS & BLEMISHES
A little preparation can go a long way if you have any distinguishable tattoos or any kind of larger blemishes that you don't want to show up on your photos. The use of Dermablend or any other quality cosmetic cover up can do a great job of covering those up before any retouching is even attempted. This can vastly improve the quality of a final retouched photo, because it requires much less photo manipulation and helps speed up the editing process.

     WEIGHT
I am a photographer, not a plastic surgeon. I can only do so much with Photoshop and, like I said, I prefer not to deceive with my photos. If you have any concerns about weight, then you might want to consider incorporating any sliming undergarments or figure-flattering clothing(corsets, girdle, spanx, etc.) during our shoot. If you are comfortable with your weight and appearance, whether you are a BBW type model or not, then I am comfortable taking your pictures. Confidence during the picture taking process goes a long, long way.

SHOW UP WEARING LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING

Tight-fitting jeans and other restrictive clothing and apparel can leave impressions and discolourations on your skin that can possibly take hours to fade away. This can deteriorate the quality of images taken during an erotic photography session where you are usually showing plenty of skin. Showing up to a boudoir photo shoot in jogging pants or yoga pants and a t-shirt is always a good idea if you want to avoid this photo shoot faux pas.

    BE POSITIVE AND UPBEAT
The right attitude can make or break a photo shoot. Showing up with a positive attitude is key to creating the right atmosphere needed for a successful session. Sometimes all of the directions, instructions and changes being made during a shoot can seem a little overwhelming if you're not used to it. Showing up with positivity and confidence will help immensely with overcoming all of the stress. Not only that, but happy and confident models always make for the best photographs.

A sub-genre of fine art nude photography, the “Nude in Nature” genre combines the female form with nature, producing beautiful and striking imagery. Working with the natural lines and lighting of trees, water, rock, and other natural features with unusual poses and contrasts of the human body can result in unforgettable artistic compositions.

Contemporary Erotica photography is a form of traditional boudoir and/or fine art nude photography with an emphasis on the sensuality and sexuality of the imagery.  While retaining a high-quality artistic quality, Contemporary Erotica is typically more revealing with more sexually suggestive poses and expressions. The genre may also include fetish-oriented content, such as BDSM, Shibari, etc.

Couples boudoir focuses on the intimacy and sensuality between partners/ They may be dressed, in lingerie/underwear, or nude. Like traditional boudoir photography, couples boudoir emphasises the aesthetic qualities of the subject and the artistic craft of the photograph. Couples boudoir is commonly combined with Contemporary Erotica photography.

Fine Art Nude photography is a genre of fine art photography which depicts the nude human body with an emphasis on form, composition, emotional content, and other aesthetic qualities.  In a typical fine art nude photography session, the model is photographed in often unusual poses using unconventional lighting techniques in the studio, or in unusual settings outdoors, buildings, etc. As you can see in the examples of fine art nude photography below, the results are often striking with a strong artistic element. Our clients are often very surprised to see themselves essentially as a work of art, and a number have had large, framed prints made to hang in their home. See our complete portfolio. If you’re not inclined to fully reveal yourself, fine art nude photography is commonly shot with “implied nudity,” where parts of your body remain covered, as you wish.

Maternity Boudoir photography is a growing trend among mothers and couples to capture the intimate beauty of pregnancy. Like Traditional Boudoir photography, maternal boudoir photography may feature the mother to be fully dressed, in lingerie and/or nude, conveying her femininity and emotional connection to her child, with emotional impact.

Wearing creative role-playing costumes and using a variety of special effects, including green screen and post-production techniques, we offer our clients the ability to transport themselves to faraway places, a different time and transform themselves into characters of their choice! Cosplay is very popular and featured at events such as the major COMICON events. We have conducted noir photo shoots, photo shoots featuring characters such as the Catwoman or Jessica Jones, mermaids, Japanese anime photography, Middle Eastern genres, and other cosplay characters, often using creative and unusual lighting and sets. We also offer “Cinemagraphs” (also known as “Living Pictures”) where part of the photo is in motion (see examples below). Also of note is a blend of Cosplay Photography with Boudoir Photography, creating a sexier version of Cosplay photography. Our Aspiring Model, Bri offers several examples of this beautiful hybrid of “Sexy Cosplay photography” in our portfolio below. In addition we offer erotic cosplay photography. Fantasy and cosplay photo shoots are great fun. Such shoots usually require additional setup and post-production to create the magic of the final product.

    DO YOU GET THE LOCATION?
This really depends on the circumstances of our shoot and what kind of package you are choosing. Most of the time when I am traveling for photo shoots, I try to have several shoots lined up to offset my expenses. A nice, regular room is usually sufficient in most cases, and I can provide that most of the time. However, some cities are very limited and/or very, very expensive when it comes to more upscale rooms. This is something you need to keep in mind as we are working out the details of your shoot.

The location of our shoot is extremely important to me, so I stay away from "cheap" when trying to scout out locations. This doesn't always mean spending a lot on the rooms, but it can get expensive when I travel hundreds of kilometres for only one or two shoots. And, like I said, some cities are very limited and very expensive when it comes to finding nicer rooms. So, obviously, it wouldn't make much sense to spend $500+ to reserve a really nice hotel room(plus other travel expenses) for a $400 or $700 shoot. A lot of times, though, the actual location isn't as big of an issue with the ladies as it is to me, because I can get good shots wherever we are, so most of the time it really depends on each lady's preferences.

If you are wanting something more upscale or unique than what I might normally provide as far as a location, then you will more than likely have to make arrangements to get the room. The only way to be assured of getting a really upscale room and still have me provide the location is to have an additional
$200 Location Fee added to your package. This is something we will have to discuss further after you've contacted me.

CAN I GET ALL OF MY UNEDITED IMAGES?
There is an additional fee of $50 for providing unedited images. You will need to let me know before our shoot so I can make the proper arrangements. If you choose this option, then after our shoot is over I will put all of your unedited images on a USB card that I will give to you.

    DO YOU REQUIRE A DEPOSIT?
Yes, in most cases I do require a $200 deposit. I get a lot of inquiries and requests for specific days and times. Most of the time I am traveling a long distance to make these shoots happen, and I have to have precise scheduling for everything to go smoothly. One or two cancellations or a girl that simply no-shows can not only mess up my own travel plans, but it can also affect other shoots that I have lined up for my trip. I've found that the ladies who are more serious about booking and following through have no problem with a deposit. This deposit is fully refundable should I have to cancel our shoot for any reason.
